What is Argan oil?

Argan oil is a natural plant oil extracted from the kernels of the Argan Tree (Argania spinosa L.), which thrives only in the Arganeraie Forest.
Covering over 3,000 sq miles (8,000 km2), the Arganeraie Forest is located in a calcareous valley in southwestern Morocco & has been designated as a UNESCO Biosphere reserve since 1998.

What’s the difference between Argan fruit and Argan kernel?

The fruit of the Argan tree, locally named “Afyach”, is the size of a walnut and hides under its pulp a core with a very hard shell that contains one to three kernels (small almonds) called “Tiznyn”.

How much Argan fruits are needed to obtain 1 Liter of Argan oil?

To obtain one liter of the precious liquid, one needs to process manually 34 kgs of fruits through multiple labor-intensive steps (depulping, nut crushing, sorting) which takes around 20 hours. It has to be noted that an average Argan tree yield 1 liter per year.

Why is Prickly Pear seed oil so expensive?

In order to obtain 1 liter of PPSO, almost 1 ton of cactus fruits is needed to obtain around 30 kgs of seeds, which are in turn squeezed inside an expeller press. Furthermore, its composition is unique for it contains more Vitamin E than argan oil and boasts the highest concentration of potent antioxidants called Betalains.

Which extraction method do we use to obtain Argan Oil and Prickly Pear seed oil?

We use the Expeller pressing method, which is a chemical-free mechanical process that extracts oil from kernels/seeds. Fed into the Expeller press, kernels/seeds are squeezed under high pressure to liberate the oil from the matrix without any chemical solvents.

What is an Expeller?

An expeller press is a screw-type machine that mainly presses oil seeds through a caged barrel-like cavity. Kernels/Seeds enter one side of the press and waste products exit the other side. The machine uses friction and continuous pressure from the screw drives to move and compress the kernels/seed. The oil seeps through small openings that do not allow seed fiber solids to pass through.

In which container should be Argan Oil and Prickly Pear seed oil kept into?

Choose a dark glass container for an optimum storage. Darkness prevent the oil’s best properties to be broke down by light and Glass is chemically inert whereas plastic cause chemical changes to your precious liquid.

How to store Argan Oil and Prickly Pear seed oil?

The best way to store AO/PPSO is to keep it away from heat and light since both break down the oil’s best properties. Prefer a cool place & avoid putting it under the sun.

Are Argan Oil and Prickly Pear seed oil cold-pressed?

Yes. Since the extraction is mechanical and do not use high temperature to soften the kernels/seeds before extraction.

Are Argan Oil and Prickly Pear seed oil extra-virgin?

Yes. The acidity value of the oil is the only criterion to classify it as extra-virgin or not. It has to be lower than 0.8, which is the case for our oils.

Are Argan Oil and Prickly Pear seed oil organic?

Yes. We are certified and approved for organic processes by ECOCERT for US and European standards. It concerns all our products.

Who may export from Morocco?

Only companies registered at the EACCE, which is a Moroccan official institution that supervise and coordinate national exportations that allows companies to export. This institution inspects regularly production units and analyzes every batch upon export to ensure only genuine products are exported and meet international safety standards.
